Question:
Support Group
I'm pre-op for RNY. Is this the best place to come for unanswered questions?? Am looking for support! Patty — Patty D. (posted on March 23, 2002)

I can only answer for Lima, OH; we have one that meets on the second
Tuesday of each month in the Community Room in the American Mall @ 7 P.M.
BUT...how I found out about it was by talking to people in my area who have
had the surgery. One young woman happened to mention that her
mother-in-law had started one. Also, ask your surgeon's office; this woman
works closely with the Bariatric Treatment Center in Columbus, OH. Hope
that helps, because the support group is a great idea. I'm at the stage of
waiting for my insurance to approve the surgery, and the group truly IS a
great support for me...as well as an encouragement!

Patty, You can also go to the Find Peers page. Click on your state then
look at the people who live in your town or in towns near you. Send emails
to some of them. Ask if they belong to any support groups. You might also
be able to meet some of them. It's how I met the first couple of people I
know from my area.<p>You can also click on 'events' at the top of
this page. It shows some of the support groups that are coming up.

patty this is a wonderful place to come to for support. its always here.
there r people in the chat room all hours of the day & nite. i received
my whole wls education just from this site alone. because of this site i
was able to make an educated & informed decision that was right for ME
about wls. local support groups r fantastic ways to meet people in person
who have had or r going to have wls. i have made quite a few friends thru
my local support group. is one better than the other? i dont think so. i
think they r equal in the support & info area but support groups dont
meet on a daily basis & there will be times when a meeting is scheduled
& u cant make it. this site is here 24/7. so, i like to think that i
have 2 support groups, my local one & AMOS.
