Question:
What is the total cost of the different surgerys
I need to know how much that it cost for the complete procedure. I need it to turn in for a loan. — [Anonymous] (posted on February 26, 2002)

I had some insurance, but it still cost over 20,000 dollars for an open
procedure. If it would have been done laproscopically, add another 2,000.
That only includes the surgeon and the hospital. There are other costs.

So much depends on where you have your surgery done and who does it. My
procedure was only $13,000 total, including everything. (I had an open
RNY.)

Around $70,000 TOTAL here including pre ops and everything. Any chance you
could get insurance? In the event of complications like Wand Smart is
having the bill could ruin you fiancially.

My hospital bill alone was $23,000 and the surgeon's bill was $7,500. My
insurance covered in whole the hospital bill, but they only paid 70% of my
dr bill. Good luck. :)

Well I was told it would be between 25-30 thousand by the doctors office.
But when I got a statement from the hospital it was over 52,000.00 not
including the surgeon and anethesologist they ended up being another
15,000.00. This does not include my pre-testing, sleep lab, blood work,
cardiologist, psycho evaluation, etc. So I would say I am somewhere near
90,000.00 dollars and I didn't have any complications at all. I was a lapro
and was in the hospital for 4 days. Thank god for insurance..I think I will
owe out of pocket about 2,000-2,500 which isn't bad. But that is a
tentative amount, have not rec. some actual bills yet.

The total cost of my open RNY was in excess of $25,000. I was in the
hospital for 3 days. This amount includes my surgeon's fees, the hospital
fees, the PA and other incidentals.

I had open RNY on October 16th, '01. My bills for the procedure came to
just under $22,000. That included pre-op testing, surgeons, anestesiologist
(sp?), hospital stay, and 3 months after care visits. With my insurance, I
only ended up paying about $750. I agree with the other posters, though...
it depends on which procedure, what hospital and what surgeon you have.
Good luck!

For the Duodenal Switch Procedure I am paying (self pay) 21,500 for the
hosptial. That is a capped fee that includes upto 6 days in the hospital
even if all six are in the ICU. (it will be 1K per day after that if I
need it) And 4500 for my surgeon's fee. That fee includes all after
care. It did not include: 250 for my psych eval. 250 for my initial
consult and travel costs. I am pretty sure I can get my insurance to
cover my Xray and labs.

I was quoted a price of $30,000 by my surgeons office. I am having Lap RNY.
That is only a ball park figure too. This is the price of things in St.
Louis, Mo. Thank God for good insurance, that is all I can say!!!!!

$18,700 for lap RNY in Atlanta....this was an all-inclusive fee (covering
surgeon, assistant, anesthesia and hospital) regardless of length of stay
in the hospital....by an internationally renowned bariatric surgeon
specializing in lap WLS. Good luck!

I think I am up around 40,000 dollars after the Hospital, anestesiologist,
Surgeon, lab work, and after care. Insurance has taken care of all but
about 1000 dollars for my Open RNY procedure.

I am scheduled for lap RNY in a month - I am expecting to pay, if
everything is without complications and for a normal 2-day stay
approximately $25,000.00 which includes aftercare and that's a little high.
My doctor & his associate is $4800.00 / hospital approximately
$14000.00 and anesthesiologist no more than $1700.00 - aftercare is
included in the doc's price but I've planned for a bit extra, just in case.
