Question:
Is there any funding available to help with expenses?
I am on a fixed income and desperately need this surgery to save my life and my insurance will only cover approximately 80 percent of the cost. I need help with the out-of-pocket expenses and I want to know if there are any funds or help available to a person in my position? — Joyce H. (posted on January 11, 2002)

To make a long story short; due a very expensive adoption this past year,
my husband and I do not have any extra money for my surgery either. The
hospital that I will most likely have my surgery in offers guaranteed, low
interest loans for medical services. These loans are through US Bank and
do not require a credit check or any credit monkey business. This is a
bonus for us as our credit has definitely taken some major blows over the
past several months!!!!! Check into your hospital and see what they offer.
Hospitals also have financing available; talk to your surgeon's office,
too, they may be a valuable resource. I know of a few people who have had
their surgery free (after insurance pays)--sometimes drs will perform a
limited number of procedures free of charge as a type of community
service/tax write off/charitable contribution.
