Hi, I have BCBS of Mn. and had no problems getting approved. But maybe they
differ from state to state. That, I do not know about. All they required
was a psych evaluation and my signature showing that I was aware of the
life changes that were involved with this surgery. When I went to my
surgeon he wanted a diet history, which I provided. He sent that to the
insurance co. along with the rest of my paperwork. I think you may just
have to wait until you get a policy book outlining your benefits to really
know for sure. Oh, and another requirement was that your BMI had to be 40
or above and at least 100 pounds over your ideal body weight. From what I
have read, BCBS is pretty easy to deal with. Maybe you can go to the
"find peers" section of this site and find some people in your
state who have BCBS of Oklahoma and you can email them and ask. Hope this
helps a little.....good luck!

I have Blue Cross Blue Shield GA, and my first letter went in on 11/28 and
then I had to re-send it. It is a National Account out of Cumberland
Maryland. I am still waiting, but I should see a letter in a day or two.
One was sent out on 12/17!

I'm scheduled for surgery on Feb 8th 2002 and I'm on BlueCross
HMO..approved the first time even when my pcp
said they wouldn't. haha. I have only had to pay a $10 co-pay for the
visit to my pcp's office to request the authorization to a surgeon for WLS.
Blue Cross came back with the name of the exact Dr. I was trying to
get...even though he wasn't in the HMO group. I was expecting a fight and
was prepared to do so...but it was completely unnecessary. I couldn't
recommend them more. I'm in CA.
