Question:
I was wondering what kind of test they run before surgery?
Because I was informed the my pre-admission testing would last for four hours do I have anything to be worried about. — blank first name B. (posted on December 17, 2001)

My pre-op testing took about 3 to 4 hours as well. I had an abdominal
ultrasound, EKG, chest x-rays, blood work (including blood gasses) and a
urinalysis.

My pre-op tests consisted of blood work, blood gases (which burned some but
made me sick afterwards for some reason - but then I've never been great
about needles), an EKG and a couple of chest xrays. I already had an upper
GI done previously for my surgeon, along with the ultrasound for my
gallbladder (which we already know has to come out). It didn't even last 2
1/2 hours because they weren't very busy. I think a good bit of that 3-4
hours is sitting time.

I had blood work, gave a urine sample, EKG, chest x-ray and a general
physical. Mine took about 2 hours and my PCP did it all and sent the
results to my surgeon and the hospital where I had my surgery. Just before
surgery I had to give another urine sample and had more blood drawn.
