Question:
Has anyone had their weight hit a plateau after 2 years or more post op?
I had VGB surgery 2yrs ago and no matter what I do, the weight stays the same. I am looking into getting a revision to the RNY. I have BCBS of Colo. Can anyone give me some suggestions if I am doing the right thing by getting a revision? Also is BCBS hard to get it approved? — janet J. (posted on November 21, 2001)

I'm almost 2 years post-op coming up December 8th.. I have been at 140
pounds since 18 months post-op and don't expect to lose any more weight,
matter of fact I bounce 140-145 weekly :) Everyone's window is
different. some stop at 12 months, some 18 months, few at 24 months, but
I would say most at 18 months is the normal. And to be honest from my 12th
month post-op..I just knew my window was approaching, as my rapid weight
loss had slowed from 6 pounds a week to 6 pounds a month approx....What
your experiencing may not be a plateau but more like your window of
opportunity has closed. As far as a revision goes you didn't say how far
from your goal weight or target weight you are so hard for me to answer
that part, although on BC/BS if the revision is deemed a medical necessity
seem to approve quite well... Please feel free to write me anytime if I can
help further..

I am 2 1/2 years post op and have been on the plateau so long that I forgot
what losing the weight is like...
I dont feel bad because Im not losing any more weight but it would be
nice...I have lost 200 pounds and still want to lose another 20 or 30
pounds...I dont exercise because of chronic back pain but feel it will help
with plateau problems...also I think I need to drink more protein shakes
and be perfectly good in taking my vitamins everyday...and stop snacking so
much in between meals...
the only thing I can figure out as to why we hit these plateaus is that our
bodies get used to what we are eating now and the only way to fix it is to
rev up the metabolism...
ok I preached it...the hard part will be practicing what I preach...that is
where I need the help...any advice??
