Question:
Suddenly - 5 weeks post op -- I have this unpleasant sensation.
It's like a nagging sortof nausea feeling. Not like I'm going to throw up, but it certainly keeps me from eating anything but saltine crackers. I was eating some foods -- chicken soup, yogurt, applesauce, refried beans -- until about a week ago. I also am having trouble drinking liquids. Even water sometimes. I don't want to overdramatize this -- I am back at work halfdays. But my skin is drying out, I feel generally weaker, and I have absolutely no interest in eating other than I KNOW I have to eat something and have to keep hydrated. I take a Zantax twice daily but that's done at the end of this week. Has anyone gone through this? — cjtich (posted on October 30, 2001)

I believe that your are describing "dehydration" symptoms.

Call your surgeon, it sure sounds like your stoma has closed with some scar
tissue. The timing is right too. Between 3 and 6 weeks is when this
usually happens. Call soon.

Strictures can develop any time really, but you're more prone to it around
week 4-ish. I had one. That's actually how I started out feeling. It
eventually elevated to where no matter what I would eat/drink, it came up.
It was a stricture and I had it dialated with 2 endoscopies on the same day
(no problem) and now I'm a totally happy camper. I haven't had any nausea
since...who would've thought the stricture would cause the nausea!!!
Luck!

I'm 10 weeks post up and I have this nagging nauseas feeling all the time
after I eat something that needs to be chewed. Most of the time I end up
throwing up. I'm ok if I eat jello, applesauce or just liquids. I went for
a follow up with my surgeon and he told me that this feeling this far post
op was not normal I had a small Bowel Follow through and I had no
obstructions or twisted bowels so my surgeon is sending me to get an
Endoscopy done he thinks I may have scar tissue or swelling where the
stomach and bowel connect and might have to have the opening opened up a
bit more so food can flow through more easly.

I am doing the SAME thing now. I don't throw up... just that feeling which
makes me not want to eat. Doc gave me fenagrin (sp?) and helped A LOT!
