WHatever one you can stand to drink! ;) They are all awful. There is only one (so far) that I can stand to drink and that is Extreme Pure Pro, and that is awful. Plus the cheapest price is $30 and I would need four a month. So I'm not getting much protein, only what I can eat. And that is'nt much. Protein tastes bad and it's to expensive. I sure can't afford to pay over $120 a month for it. I don't know how anyone else can ether. Yes, I know, we need it. But if you don't have the money, you don't have the money. I would suggest trying several kinds (Before surgery), find what you think you can tolerate. Then stock up on some of it now, so you won't have the full cost later. Myself, I just can't afford it so I have to go without. If it hurts my health, well there's just nothing I can do about it. I'm disabled and don't have the money. But if you have the money to buy it Annette, I'm happy for you. But find out what you can stand to drink now, before surgery. You are not going to feel like finding one afterward. ;) Good luck to you.

I have found that chocolate Boost is the best overall, as far as taste(good), price($4 for 4), sugar, and protein (15g).

I use Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein. I like the double chocolate flavor. The taste is pretty good and I haven't had any trouble keeping it down.It has 22 grams of protein per scoop and only 3 grams of carbohydrate. I take 2 scoops a day mixed in 1 cup of skim milk for a total of 53 grams of protein. It needs either a blender or mixer to mix really smooth. It is found at General Nutrition Centers. The cost is $24 for a two weeks supply.

Different strokes for different folks - there's no way to know what you'll like. I spent a lot of money on different brands, and they were nearly all gross to me. Finally I've settled on Designer Protein Vanilla; I add a scoop to Carnation Instant Breakfast and it's tolerable. The bottled Carb Solutions drinks have also been OK - the vanilla is actually pretty decent, the chocolate is tolerable, the cappucino literally made me sick. Good luck with your surgery!

In our pre-op class we were given this recipe for a protein drink...2 cups skim milk, 1/2 cup powdered milk and one packet of carnation (sugar-free) instant breakfast. Drinking this twice a day is your protein for the day. It tastes good and isn't much extra since I buy milk anyway. Some can't tolarate milk but if you can it's a good source!!

This is a suggestion and my opinion only. I purchased a product called Pro Complex from advantagesupplements.com before my open RNY. I have the chocolate powder. At the time I purchased it, they were offering a 5.6-pound container of it for under $40. They charge $5 to ship it to anywhere. I have found this exact protein supplement at GNC, but they want almost $40 for a 2-pound container. I always make a chocolate shake with mine in the blender. I use maybe 1/2 cup of low fat or skim milk, 2 scoops of the protein powder, 1/2 packet of Carnation Instant Breakfast (most of the time), and about 2 handfuls of ice in a blender. I got really sick of them after awhile, but now my hair has started falling out, so I am making myself drink these again. I started putting in 1/2 banana and a few drops of vanilla extract and they are actually tasting quite yummy. You can add more ice cubes to make a thicker shake. E-mail me if you have any questions and I hope this helps :)

I use a product called Whey Delicious and I swear that it is wonderful... I love the Orange Cream and the Berry but the other flavors are great too( I haven't tried Chocolate because I don't like to drink anything chocolate). Sometimes when I'm running somewhere and I haven't got my protein in I will grab a spoonful of the powder...yes, dry and eat it to get some protein in...that's how much I like it!!!

I use ProScore 100 chocolate, ice & water. I never add milk because it's indigestible to a person with RNY, and all I get is the sugar out of the deal. Some add peanut butter, or a few frozen fruits, like banana slices or berries, but I am a purist. Make it chocolate or don't mess with me. Occasionally I deviate to a root beer float made with PB55 vanill + 1/2 Can diet RB (ice, of course), or some grape Extreme Pure Pro(water, ice), amd my to-o model is a combo of PB55 choc & van. I make 'em up dry in plastic bottles, add water, shake & chug on the road. Don uses the PB55 choc (water, ice), and Isopure ZeroCarb van + 1/2 can diet orange for his orange creamsicle. We both use Cheramino, but it's convenient, not tasty. I LOVE my PS100 choc, love it! Cannot get enough, so that's the good time. But the others are OK, just not "exciting". We do 6 shakes per day, and have maintained 100% wt loss for 6 & 7 years now, so we'll just continue to do what we do, and enjoy it. NOthing about our life today is as difficult as a single day pre-op.

I use Isopure protein. The nice thing I like about it is that you only have to drink 12 oz. of water with it. I divide the powder in half and drink 6 oz. in the morning and then 6 oz in the evening. With having such a small stomach it works the best for me. Also, for the on packet you get 50 grams of protein and only 300 calories. To me it tastes the best, it's very thin, not like some other ones I've tried. It comes in chocolate, peanut butter/choc.,vanilla, orange and strawberry. To me this on tastes the best so far cuz I didn't realize there was that much nasty tasting protein out there until I had this surgery. You can buy it at GNC and also off of the website affordablesupplements.com. They are almost $12 cheaper than GNC. Good luck!

Hi...I recently tried MetRX Extreme Chocolate, which has I think about 230 calories for 38 grams of protein (a pretty good proportion there). I use some ice with it. It's thick, if you like that kind of thing. I've also used ProScore 100 which is thinner and pretty good. Physicians Weight Loss Centers sell protein soup mixes: chicken and beef broth and cream of tomato, which are excellent and only 70-80 calories for 15 grams of protein. But they're pricey. You have to get them online at pwlc.com because you can't buy them at centers unless you're a member. But I agree with a lot of people here: You have to find what you can tolerate and like. I like the thick chocolate shake taste of Metrx, but it could make other people gag! Best of luck on your exciting new "journey"!

The answer to this will depend on what you like. I personally bought several samples for about $1.50 each from vitalady.com and had one a day until I found one I like. I am in love with ProBlend 55 Mocha Cappucino. I never even drank coffee pre-op so it was a surprise that I liked this so much. I've heard that mixing some of the drinks with coffee kills the aftertaste. I hated most of the samples I had (ProScore 100 was ok but not as good as the PB55). Anyway, you'll want to try to stay away from mixing them with milk. Too much sugar (even in skim). I drink 2-3 a day for 60-90 g protein.
