Question:
Can you donate bone marrow after surgery?

I know that some people say that you can never again donate blood but is it the same with your bone marrow?    — michelle M. (posted on September 21, 2001)

Who said you can't be a blood donor after wls????? I've donated blod several times in the past three years. Of course anyone with an iron deficiency shouldn't donate blood. Same with donating bone marrow. Wls wouldn't automatically preclude one from being a donor.

I don't know about bone marrow but I just asked my surgeon if I could donate blood at 7 mos post-op and he said as long as I wasn't anemic when they checked me that he saw no reason why I couldn't donate blood.

I called my Doctor last week & asked if I could donate blood and platelets (aphoresis). They said I "absolutely" can & today I did donate blood with no problems at all. I'm a year & a half post.
