Hi Annette..yes I had an ng tube with my open RNY in May. It is used to
drain the pouch. It was the worst part of my surgery! I couldn't wait for
the leak test so I could get it out. That only took a second, not bad at
all. I had a terrible sore throat but that is the least i would endure to
be able to lose 69 lbs in 4 months! Good luck!

I also woke up with a NG tube. It was not that bad. I think I barely
noticed it as I was expecting to have one. The leak test was not too bad
and it was good to get the tube out.

I had a NG tube in during surgery, but they didn't put it in untill I was
asleep, and it was taken out by the time I woke up. My Dr. Told me that
the purpose of the tube is to help drain any blood or fluids in the
stomach.
