Question:
I am 7 days post-op and have a very hard time sipping 8 ozs for an hour.

It usually only takes me about 20-30 minutes to sip, through a straw, my 8 oz of protein shake. My nutritionist said to space it out over a 1 hour period. I just can't make my mouth work that slowww! Did anyone else have this problem? If so, please help me! Thanks!    — [Anonymous] (posted on August 15, 2001)

I wasn't aloud to sip through a straw my doc said it would casue more gas and fill me up faster. All I can say is it gets better after the first week believe me give it some time and maybe try with out the straw!!

I am continuously amazed at the differing opinions about post-op care. MY surgeon told me to use a straw following surgery. So, I guess it just shows us that there is obviously many different opinions and we need to research and choose the ones that are best for us. I couldn't imagine taking an hour to have 8 ounces. I can only drink the protein when it has been freshly made. If it sits around too long it is awful! I would recommend drinking it at a comfortable pace. If you are not in discomfort afterwards, then 20-30 minutes seems reasonable.
