Question:
Under 5'/How fast or slow will I lose weight?
At a BMI of 41, with barely 100# to lose, at what rate would I lose? Any other shorties out there?! :o) (Open Rny.) — Dhelynn (posted on November 24, 2000)

When I had my RNY 3/15/00 I went in at 5'3 and 214lbs with alot of
comorbesitys...I am now at at 60lb weight loss and am very happy with what
I've lost. I have hit some platues but have found out that with walking
and excersise it boosts the matabalism..the weight loss now is getting
slower but it makes me work out alot more...I'm more motivated!!! :)

Good Morning...I'm only 5'1", and I weighed 212 going into surgery
(open bpd/ds). That was October 12, 2000. I weighed 174
yesterday..November 24, 2000...pretty cool, huh? Anyway, Thanksgiving was
only 5 weeks postop for me...and I will start walking and such this week.
So, I guess it just depends on how much exercise you get (which I have
hardly had any *grins*) and how much you eat...which you won't be able to
eat much! You'll do GREAT, I promise. Take care..and God bless~TG

Hey Fellow Shorty!! Well, I am 5'0 tall and I had weighed in on Sept.26 at
258. I am 2 months post op and have lost about a total of 43lbs. My doctor
said this is great. It is more than 30% of my body weight. It has been
coming off natural. I honestly think it is has something to do with how
much you weigh, and your co-morbedities, your exercise, your protein, and
your habits. I haven't been exercising AS MUCH. I do maybe 3 times a week.
I will tell you this, you will notice that by you being short of how much
weight makes you look bigger. What I mean is, when i lost the first 20lbs.
It was amazing on what a difference that 20lbs did to my short frame. And
wowwwwy what a difference the 43lbs is making. Even though I am not under
200lbs yet. It makes a big difference on our shapes and shortness. Now I am
feeling better about myself. Even in my 200 of glory. I still look good.
LOL>..I can't wait until all the weight comes off. I had the same
question before my surgery. I thought I would lose slower because I was
short. NOT SO!! It will come off and you will love it girlfriend. God's
speed and his blessing!!

I had my surgery on 10/25/00. I am 4ft 11 inches tall and weighed 217 lbs.
I know it has been awile since this question was posted, but I thought I
would put my thoughts in anyway. I lost over 1/2 of what I needed to lose
within 2 months. It is amazing how much better I felt. I have now lost 90
llbs with only 10 or 15 left to go. It is so much easier to buy clothes now
to fit our short little height. I do exercise, drink lots of water, and get
in alot of protein everyday. I think it is all up to you and what you do
with your tool on how well you do. I do think it is harder on us short
people to carry around the extra weight, but it is somewhat easier it seems
for us "short WLS" persons to get it off. Best of luck!!!
