Question:
Trying to get 50-60 grams of Protein each day
I am 9 says post op and i am finding it hard to get the amt of protein i need, My Dr suggested that i start eating scrambled eggs, but that is about a bite maybe two. I have been sipping milk and this seems to be the only way i can get close to the amt of protein i need. — Barbara R. (posted on September 28, 2000)

www.vita4life.com has a new liquid protein that is quite palatable and easy
to swallow. It's 30grams in 2 oz of a light weight flavored liquid that you
can mix with water or juice. I am very sensitive to protein powders and
have not found one that I can swallow...this was easy!! It's not cheap,
but worth it if you want your days protein in 4oz.

Although Barb has covered this admirably, I want to add this from the
"keep the pouch small" point of view. Since we are on clear
liquids for 4 weeks, there is not food to be choosing from and no pouch
stretching to be thinking about. We do not do milk or sugar at all, so
protein supplement is our only choice and a very safe & comfy one it
is. Many tasty protein drinks will shake up easily in 4 oz of water, for
30g of protein and only a speck of sugar, 0-3g. There's not carbs or empty
calories in protein shake. All of it goes to work for you, nourishing and
satisfying. AND it doesn't stretch the pouch. I'm also a ProScore 100
addict myself. It takes more like 8 oz but is very satisfying in the tummy
and a great deal of fun on the tongue. And NO empty calories. When you're
using real food for protein, don't forget to deduct your procedure from the
protein g offered. Without a stomach, there is no digestion and with RNY,
there is far less absorption. With protein supplements, no digestion is
necessary. You'll be into food soon enough, so don't stress trying to do it
all right now.

Barbara - honey - give up the milk! It is full of lactose -which is sugar.
You are defeating the purpose of the protein you are able to take in. Go
get Pro Blend 55 - I use the chocolate - it is available at The Vitamin
Shoppe - call your local health food stores. Mix one scoop with 4 oz of
water twice a day (morning and late afternoon). This will provide you with
55 gms per day!
Good luck!
