Question:
Please help me find something different to eat.

I am having a hard time coming up with fat-free, sugar-free liquids. The first time I try something, it's ok, but then when I try to eat it again I suddenly can't stand the taste and it makes me nautious. I have one more week to go on liquids and I can't stand yogurt, baby food or jello anymore. Can anyone give me a few new ideas? Thanks! (Btw, lost 14 lbs the first week and 10 lbs the 2nd!)    — Tracey D. (posted on May 23, 2000)

Have you tried Crystal Light... They have many differet flavors, Lipton "pre-mixed" teas are really good... try the one that is called either "natural Tea" or "diet Tea" these don't have any sugar---I love the raspberry flavored tea! I mix it and keep is really cool... and with the weather getting hot it's a great change!! For an added treat I put frozen (no sugar added) raspberries in this tea... then I don't put ice in it, and also I sometimes add some lemon as well for a nice flavor! I ate a lot of flavored yogurts, creamy soups, some instant mashed potatoes with butter flavor (nice change) I also ate some "pintos and beans" from Taco Bell... this and refried beans and cheese at home can give you a great change and taste... the beans and cheese have a lot of protien! Have you tried soft poached or scrambled eggs w/cheese? Good luck!

During the liquid phase of my diet I drank pepermnt and orange spice tea by Lipton, chicken and beef broth, dilute crystal light, dilute sugar free tang, sugar free popsicles and fudgesicles, and broth from home made vegetable soup. BTW, yogurt and baby food are not liquids, they are puree. Also, designer protein (Frenhc vanilla) & sugar free Tang is great, tastes like melted orange sherbert. If you are on full liquids you can make an egg nog with non-fat milk, egg beaters, vanilla and artificial sweetner, also chocolate Carnation Instant Breakfast w/ protein powder and skim milk is good. Good Luck.

During my first post-op week my Mother made me some potato soup she made from instant mashed potatoes. She just made it with lots of milk & a fair amount of spices. It was the first non-bland thing I'd had for a long time & tasted like Heaven. I ate that several times. During the next week I discovered Blue Bunny frozen yogurt smoothie bars. They are fat free, 40 to 70 calories, & have a small amount of sugar (approx 6 grams, I think). These have never given me any problem & are really yummy. Good luck!

There have been many great suggestions so far. I would add the things that saved me: Delicious soup from your favorite deli or restaurant pureed in the blender at home. Some have to be watered a little, but many work well. Even pasta soups and bean soups. One of my favorites was lentil soup. Also sugar free chocolate pudding which you may have already tried. Good luck. It is all worth it!!

I lived on soups for the first weeks. You would be surprised at the number of low fat healthy choice soups that dont taste half bad, once you add salt to them. I could not eat much of them though due tosmall stomach and what was in came out very fast.
