Hi--I had a gastric bypass (open RNY) 9 weeks ago, and I've done fine. You
will probably be in the hospital for 4 to 6 days, will probably have a
nasal gastric tube which is a little uncomfortable, and you will probably
be on a full liquid diet for up to 3 weeks postop. I never had much pain
from the incision, even in the hospital, and I never need pain meds after I
got home from the hospital. Each day, I gained more stamina. I walked
from day one, even if it was only afew minutes at a time, and I drank water
every time I could. I found I got full quickly, and was truly not hungry.
I also found that my tastes changed--ALOT! For example, I used to love
iced tea with lemon, but now it tastes awful to me! Hope this helps--

The 2 surgeries are so very different. Your results will be radically
different with either. Given a choice, I'd still opt for RNY.
