Question:
16 days post op. I feel weak, nauseous, not hungry.
I live alone and have very little energy for preparing food. What's the quickest most nutritious thing to eat? Is tofu okay? Or do I need more sugar? — Laurie C. (posted on June 9, 1999)

The sugar may be causing your symptoms! Are you using a high quality
protein supplement? Getting plenty of water? Called your doctor?

I too was weak and had no appetite two weeks after surgery. I asked the
doctor's office about this, as I had basically been on the same diet 2
years ago (sugar-free high protein drinks) on the exact same number of
calories a day and I was not weak then. They informed me that it was a
result of having MAJOR SURGERY. You will be weaker and much more tired for
about 3 months. After that you should be up to full steam. Are you truly
nauseous? If so, that may indicate that you are having problems with
biliary blockage. You should mention those symptoms to your doctor if they
are severe.

I feel for you. I was very nauseous for quite a while too.
I tried to keep up with my protein drinks and sipped alot of
broth. Jello was also good for that icky feeling. Hope you feel
better soon. It took about a month for mine to go away.

I would say soup would be your quickest, most nutritious
meal. At 16 days I was eating soup but blending it down
to a semi-liquid form. Something that would go through a
strainer.

First and most importantly ... I think you need to call your doctors
office!!! Here is a link to a site that has a sample post-op diet.
http://www.gicare.com/pated/edtgs22.htm However, I still think you REALLY
need to speak to your doctors office for instructions! I was slightly weak
at 16 days post op, but not to the point of not feeling like making my
meal. I felt like eating next to nothing, which is a GOOD thing in my
book, and what the surgery is supposed to ... if you're having nausea, and
are that weak ... call your doctor! Sherrie

sugar free yogurt, oatmeal, skim milk, cottage cheese, sugar free carnation
instant breakfast, chicken broth, tomato soup with crackers, etc.

I use scrambled eggs to get a good source of protein. I wondered if the
sugar you are having is what is causing your nausea. I cannot tolerate any
sugared foods.

I found that I felt weak and shakey because of the pain meds. Once I weaned
myself from that I felt much better and had more energy.
