Stephanie, have you had your labs done? It sounds to me like a B deficiency
and it can be irreversible. Do you supplement your B12 daily or take
shots? I would definitely get to the doctor immediately. Hope this helps
some! Erika

I am only 6 weeks post op, but I have numbness in my hands and feet
constantly starting at 1 month post op. I have had my labs done and
everything is normal. I take my vitamins and B12, Calcium Citrate every
single day. My surgeon is sending me to my family doctor to see if he can
find out what is going on. I can relate to what you are going through.
Hang in there and hopefully soon they will find out what is causing your
numbness!

I see some people have suggested this may be due to a vitamin
deficiency---but a vitamin deficiency would affect both sides of your body
equally. Could you have a pinched nerve?

Due to some complications of surgery I had to spend 3 weeks in the hospital
and then 3 weeks in a rehabilitation hospital to learn to walk again. My
left foot from the ankle down is constantly asleep or in pain. My surgeon
and PCP seems to think that I damaged a nerve while on my back for the
first three weeks because the nurses never turned me and it was due to my
positioning in the bed. They both say that it should correct itself in 6-7
months (it takes that long for the nerve to regenerate. I also take
neurontin capsules for the pain and it works wonders.

Here is the link to an article recently published about peripheral
neuropathy following gastric bypass surgery:
http://www.mayoclinic.org/news2004-rst/2469.html. Please make sure you are
getting proper nutrition in, and taking all your vitamins - B's seem to be
especially important.
