Question:
I have had 3 c-sections, can I still get the Laparoscopic (RYGB)?
I am concerned that because I have been opened up 3 times, last one in 2001, the I can't get the Laparoscopic? Do I need to be opened up again? Help! — Sun S. (posted on May 16, 2005)

I have had 3 c-sections too, the last one was Jan 2002, and I had my Lap
RNY on Feb 2003 and I had no problems.
My C-section scar, is so low and my lap scars are so high that there was
never a problem.

I have also had three c-sections, the last in 2000. Initially my surgeon
told me that disqualified me for LAP due to too much scar tissue. But the
morning of my surgery he kept coming in the room and examing my c-section
scar, and he told me he'd try to do it LAP. It took four hours but he did
it with no problem. There were four years between my last baby and WLS.

I had one C-section. I don't think having any C-sections has anything to
do with whether you have LAP or not. Six small holes are made in your
abdomen and none necessarily have to be made where the C-section(s) were
done.

Hello, I am a S/P 5 c-sections I had my last c-section after my RNY
everything went fine. All c-sections were in the last ten years.

I had 2 surgeries where I was cut like a c-section and had both a lap RNY
and a lap gall bladder removal with no problem.

Keli,
I had 2 c-sections, an abdominal surgery and a partial
hysterectomy on the same cut, and had WLS lapriscopically.
I got cut again when my left ovary was removed. I had the same question
before WLS, and if I would've had the surgery at UC Davis, that doctor
would've cut me open. Thank God for Dr. Coirin in Manteca--he worked his
magic and did it lap! He said I had tons of scar tissue, but still managed
to do it lap. I'd say ask the dr. you're going to see, and if he/she wants
to cut you, get a second opinion.

I had 3 c-sections and a hysterectomy, all through a horizontal
"bikini cut". I had a lap RNY with no problems.

I have not had a c-section, but had 12 open abdominal surgeries before LAP
RNY. There was a lot of scar tissue, and he wasn't sure I wouldn't have to
be openend, but he did it in a little over 4 hours LAP. In fact, he had one
less incision since some scar tissue nicely moved my liver out of the way
for him :) Good luck to you!

I had two C-sections and a hysterectomy prior to lap/rny with no issues at
all. Best of luck, Darla

I had 2 C-sections and a Hsyterectomy and mine were done the old way with
the scar running vertical (NOT bikini cut). My surgeon told me he would
start the surgery Laparoscopically, but if there was lots of scar tissue
adhesions, he would have to convert to open. In my case the scar tissue did
not cause a problem and he was able to do it Laparoscopically.

No Problem...I have had 3 C sections and a hysterectomy all done the
vertical way. I had my WLS done Lap and when the surgeon was in there he
even fixed up a few adhesions for me. I felt great! Of course you need to
discuss this with your doctor. He/she knows best!!!

I haven't had WLS yet but I also have had 3 C-section and my Dr. told me
that it depended on my scare tissue
