Question:
I am 3 years post op and at my desired weight.
I have a back injury. After trying a laundry list of other medications, I have a sympathetic nerve condition that has only responded to Topamax. However, the medication has made me lose my desire to eat. Since March 12th (3 weeks ago)I have lost 16 pounds. I am more concerned with nutrition than pounds. I have started taking "Amino 2222" but I am not sure that is the best product, it was just what was available at GNC at the time I was there. Does anyone (like Vitalady) have any suggestions. I really do not want to lose my hair again. — smummert (posted on April 3, 2004)

Amino 2222 is collagen protein and not as bio-available as the whey protein
supplements. GNC carries Designer Whey, and while not my favorite in taste,
you may like it. They also carry their own store brands of whey protein
powder. The nice thing about GNC is that they let you return the jugs even
after you open them (if you don't like them). Ask them about the policy. If
you want to try single serve samples, you can go to vitalady.com or
bariatriceating.com or wlssuccess.com to buy samples for around $2 each.
Also, Vitaldy has a couple of links that explain why protien
supplementation is needed and a link of a comparison chart of the different
powders she carries.
Good Luck.

Well, since you asked. Ali answered it pretty well. The collagens are not
complete, nor do the mfr claim them to be "life supporting". They
just sort of up the protein count of a meal in which other protein is
present. I use another amino product once/day, but do whey several times
per day. They whey proteins are almost always better sources of protein.
They mix with water, so you don't need to gain wt to save your hair. Once
you stabilize your health, you'll have more control over your wt again.
