Question:
Does anyone have a permanent back/neck injury, and the pain got worse after surgery?
I am post op--- my 1 yr. anniversary is next Sat. Feb. 14th-- VALENTINE'S DAY. Anyways, I had prior permanent back and neck injuries pre-op to my back and neck. It's called Lordosis. It's curvature problems. My chiropractor and doctor told me that a normal back and neck need to be on a slight curve, but my back and neck have little to no curve. Anyway, before my surgery the pain wasn't as bad, and now it's worse that I've lost weight. My surgeon and chiropractor told me that it's possible cause the body weight and composition changes. Any thoughts on this? And or do you have an injury and the pain worsened after losing weight? — Bonnie R. (posted on February 8, 2004)

I have read that following rapid weightloss, your body will need time to
adjust and realign its self since its not carrying all the extra weight it
use too. I rupturd my lower spine L4-L5 sciatic nerve, and I have great
disc degeneration, there also. I still have pain, the water exercise,
streching, vioxx greatly help, but it is defintely gotten better since the
wls.

Bonnie- pre-op, I didn't have any back/neck issues, but post op I do. I've
lost 130 pounds since my surgery about 15 months ago. I have a very large
apron, but because I still want to lose another 30 or so pounds, I don't
want to look into getting it surgically removed yet. I have to be careful
when I move around because if the apron 'swings' to the sides too quickly,
my back will hurt for a few days after. Could extra skin be agravating your
pre-existing condition? Just a thought.

Glad you posted this. I thought I was a odd duck. I have ulner nerve
lesions on both arms. My orthopedic doctor thought they would get better
with weight loss. It has gotten worse requiring more surgery. The nerve
injury story is in my profile. I am losing my fat padding in my arms that
protect the nerves. Means more surgery---so I dont loose more function of
arms and hands.I am happy with my weight lose-now if my arms when get happy
I would be dancing!

Thanks to all of you who had recently posted in response to my question
about chiropractor's. Mine is great. He is such a nice doctor, one of the
best I've ever had in my life. I go to see him tomorrow. I have bad TMJ on
my left side of my jaw. I hate it.
Thanks to all of you and best of luck to each and every one of you who is
reading about the chiropractor post!
