Question:
I am 2 weeks post open rny 7 pds down help
I am so worried as everyone is losing weight postop fast but me.I lost a few pounds in Dec right before my surgery, about 18 and I have lost 7 since Jan 14 surgery.I am just worried as I am only eating cream soup, jello, pudding, skim milk, and juices with lowcarb low sugar no fat low calorie as prescribed by my nutri dr.I am eating about 600 calories a day and thats hard.I am not hungry only head hunger at all.I am not cheating or drinking high calorie liquids,I weighed 228 day of surgery and weigh 221 now.I am starting to feel sad and like mys surgery didnt take or something.I have had alot of pain and pressure from my gtube still being in until it is taken out today. What could be the problem.I knew I might be a slow loser, but this slow is making me feel like a failure,I have not exercised yet due to pain from my gtube, tomorrow I am starting my old walk off the pounds indoor walk tape, but surely I could lose a few more pounds right?I have been having slow bowels since surgery, and absolutely no nausea or vomiting or reflux.I am clueless. Thanks — glori74 (posted on January 26, 2004)

Don't be so hard on yourself. Your body has gone thru trauma and needs time
to heal itself. You mentioned you lost weight before surgery could it be
that you were on the dehydrated side and all you lost was water? If so you
just got back what you needed to heal. So give it time and I think that
7lbs is great for 2 weeks! Some ppl actually gain weight after surgery.

I have only had 2 surgeries in my life, WLS and a tonsilectomy, both times
between 2 and 3 weeks after i got depressed, your body has been traumatized
and you have had many different drugs pumped into you. 7 lbs in 2 weeks is
awesome!! Can you remember the last time that happened? I bet you can't!
Think of it that way & never compare yourself to others because
everyone is so different. Drink your water and take your vitamins, get in
as much protein as you can this early on, you are doing fantastic!!!!
Take your measurements, those change quite a bit even when your scale isn't
moving as fast as you would like!
you are qualified as a light weight too, us heavy people loose quicker, we
unfortunatly have more to loose!
CONGRATS YOU ARE ON YOUR WAY TO BEING A LOOSER!!!! LOL

You are about where I was at 2 wks out. I was discouraged too, until my
doctor told me that any weight loss during the first two weeks is
considered great because you are pumped so full of fluids from the IV's in
the hospital that it takes a while for that to reabsorb and the weight loss
to start. I am now about 7 wks post op and have lost 35 lbs. Also, you are
considered a "lightweight" at 228 and you won't be losing as fast
as those who went into surgery at much higher weights. Don't worry - it's
gonna happen!!

original poster here-Sorry I didnt mention I had the Fobi Pouch which
includes a silastic band so I dont have staples and wont have stretching
,stoma,or stricture problems as the vertical banding fixes that.It is
called vertical banded gastric bypass and its a variation of gastric bypass
but similar.I have a silastic band, and a marker in my stomach.Maybe this is
why I am a slower loser?
