This is unusual unless you have severe breathing problems going in. Even though I was on bipap and on high settings I was told I could end up in ICU on a ventilator for like a day or so but it would be determined based on how I was doing. I did great and the vent was gone before I awoke and I went to my room about 45 minutes later. <p>Ask the surgeon why. The problem with this is they won't get you up and walking and there ends up being increased risk for a blood clot. Granted they will give you blood thinners etc., but the sooner you get moving the sooner you get to go home. If he is just saying it might happen then that's normal. Find out more so you understand and are in agreement with it. Most people do not end up in ICU on a vent.
