Question:
Does anyone have very heavy bleeding and clotting since surgery?
I need to know what I should do? Do I go to the GYN or call my regular doc.? When I get my period I spot for a week. Then I get my period very heavy and have alot of clotting. It was never like this before surgery. — Kathy T. (posted on June 8, 2003)

one skin and hair vitimin and b12 and it actually started helping with my
cramping and heavy periods. Could be the lack of iron i just can't take the
tablet by it self it makes me so crampy.

Losing fat releases hormones into your system. Hormones are stored in the
fat. This is probably why your periods are different. It can also cause
mood swings. I wanted to stop taking my anti depressant and the doctor
said he did not recommend it until you have lost most of the weight because
of the problem with the hormones. Call your doctor and disscuss it with
him.

To answer your specific question, either one of your doctors should be able
to deal with this. I'd suggest your PCP since they could get you in much
sooner and refer you if need be. otherwise I agree with the previous
posters :>)

My periods have changed some. But I had a thermal ablation done May of 2002
before my RNY surgery in August, 02. It's where your GYN does a D&C and
then inserts a ballon into your uterus and it fills with hot water. It kind
of burns the lining helping get rid of really heavy flows. Before having
this done, I was passing clots and gushing (don't mean to get gross). I was
messing up chairs and clothes. It was unbearable. Now, my period is like it
was as a teenager. I use about 1 -2 pads a day for two days, then just 1
pad the next two days. Now that I'm almost 11 mos postop, my period was
just two days this month and then spotting for two days. I hope that
continues! See your GYN first and if it continues, look into Thermachoice
or thermal ablation. It has been a blessing to me and I've avoided a
hysterectomy hopefully.
