Question:
Can Crawfish Up Iron Levels?

Help! does this sound crazy. Last year for the first time in 12yrs I tested normal(not anemic)at my annual blood tests. I didn't do vitamins or iron suppliments and the only change in diet was a few crawfish boils prior to the blood tests :o) could this have elevated my iron level for a short duration? about a month or two later I went to donate blood and was denied due to showing anemia LOL so... could that crawfish boil have helped temporarily raise my iron levels? errr Im pre-op and was thinking of doing a few crawfish boils just to be safe before my pre-admission tests next month ..btw *started taking vitamins off and on for about a month as well* what ya think? Have you collected your labs from pre-op til today? When you sit down with them, follow your pattern in the iron & ferritin and the Hgb & Hct. See if it's been a steady drop, or if the lab ranges varied enough to say you were ok. For example, if the range is 35-170, and it said you were 35, you'd be "in range", but if the next set said you were at 35, but the range that day was 38-172, then you'd be out of range. See what I mean?

Awww you all are the best. thanks for the help ... I adore crawfish and will eat them till surgery then feeling Im doing the best I can to up that iron level. I tried searching last night but great tired or searching when I kept hitting sites telling me how to "raise" the suckers..heck I just wanted to eat'em. LOL... Michelle Curran I want to thank you so much for all you do for WLS folks. I haven't gotten my tests but will now that you have mentioned it and if you dont' mind I will contact you if i bog down on figuring these tests out. I wrote it was 12yrs but more like 20 really I just was thinking 12 cause thats when I had my last VBG surgery and that sticks in my mind more than other things LOL doh.... anyway thanks for all the output from Joy Cain who I am now emailing as a new buddy and Jenna Bisenius (hugs) for the search....
