Question:
Does anyone know what supervised weight lose is?
Does a dietician work? What about joining the hospital gym? — boogieman9376 (posted on January 17, 2003)

Here are things that I know DO count as "supervised weight loss":
Structured programs such as Weight Watchers, Nutri-System, LA Weight Loss,
etc. A "doctor-supervised" program (such as your doctor putting
you on a XXX# of calories/day diet and/or prescribing diet pills that
required follow-up monitoring.) Basically, a program where records of the
program, including how much weight you lost and regained, etc. That's what
"supervised" means. Hope this helps!

My "supervised diet" consisted of me telling my doctor that I was
excercising and eating low fat. Then I just had to go in and get weighed
once a month and have my weight documented.

In addition to what the others posted, if you anticipate a long wait (for
example if all your testing will take a long time for any reason), your
surgeon can supervise. I am waiting until summer for scheduling reasons...
my WLS surgeon discussed proper eating with me, and said if he weighed me
on each visit until surgery, regardless of teh results, that would be
enough to document "physician supervised dieting" for the next 6
mos. (I also had 6 mos with my PCP). Just a thought, if time is on your
side.

Hello, I am going through my 3RD APPEAL with my ins company (great west),
because i didnt have 1 yr of supervised dieting with my doctor. I,ve
finally got 3 months of it under my belt, but to make my ins comp happy, i
have 9 more months to go. They want me to document every month what i've
done and check in with my DR. once a month to give them my documentations,
get weighed, and have my blood pressure checked. Then at the end of the
1yr, my Doc will write up something for great west documenting all of the
things i've done. Then.......HOPEFULLY that will be enough for them!!!!Good
luck and wish me luck as well!!!
