Question:
Please read this Proceedure for my bypass, I cannot understand it

The proceedure was listed as "Gastric bypass with a distal Rou-en-Y anastomosis", the pouch was at 60cc's...The "bypass" is as follows"the small intestine was traced from the ileocecal valve to the ligament of Treitz. The total lenght of Small Int. was 575cm. Markings were made at 175cm and again at 320cm. from the ileocecal valve. The small bowel mesentery was divided at 300cm. followed by the division of the small intestine at this level. Anastomosis was then carried out between the distal end of the proximal small bowel at 300 sm. to the site of the ileum at 175 cm......the proximal end of the distal small bowel at 300cm was brought up through a rent in the mesacolon...sorry so long, but Math, Words, and medical mixed just makes my head spin..How distal am I? how much intestine am I using now??? Thanks in advance for anyone that got through this and answers ;)    — Patricia R. (posted on November 26, 2002)

I am not sure why it matters how much exactly was bypassed but it does say that it WAS a distal. Doesn't that mean around 150cm? You sould ask you surgeon how much it was. God Bless.
