Question:
I am 2 weeks post op and have been experiencing terrible acid reflux.
I have not slept for 2 nights. I had my GERD under control before my surgery and now it seems it is back with vengence. Does this get better? — Mary Jo K. (posted on October 13, 2002)

Have you called your surgeon? You might have a ulcer, infection, or other
treatable easily fixed problem. Dont suffer give them a call.

Hi, I had the same problem immediately post op. It is from all of the
swelling in your new tummy. CAll your doc and make sure he puts you on an
antiacid medicine. Protonix worked well for me, and it is a very smal pill,
easy to swallow post op. Hope that you feel better soon. Oh, also, if it is
at night, do not eat too son to bed time, that will make it worse. Bye

I agree with the other posters. <b>Call your doctor.<b> I had
the same problem when I was 2 weeks post-op. Even water made me sick. My
doctor prescribed Prilosec (sp?) that I take once a day and Metoclopramide
that I take four times a day. Both are small pills. I have done soooo
much better since I have started both of these medications. There is
absolutely no reason for you to suffer. Best wishes on your journey - Joy

My surgeon prescribed Zantac (2/day) for the first 30 days post-op. Works
for me.
