Question:
Has anyone with Aetna POS had any issues with diet history documentation?
If anybody could please help me I would really appreciate it! — Suset D. (posted on October 9, 2002)

I have Aetna QPOS, which is similar, I am sure. I was approved this August.
I was nervous about being denied because I didn't have a 6 month supervised
diet or anything like that. I did have records of having used xenical,
redux, and other meds, hypnosis and my dieting efforts, as well as a
history of being overweight. I do have co-morbids albeit borderline. My BMI
was about 40 and I still got approved.
This was just my
experience, but I was surprised. I believe it had a lot to do with the way
my LOMN was worded and that all of my records had been organized so well by
my surgeon's office. I really do credit them with getting me
approved.
Good luck! If I can help, let me know.

I have Aetna PPO and I am having a horrible time getting approval.
They keep saying that I do not have enough documentation and have denied
me.
I'm in the process of appealing.
I've had 2 doctors write letters stating that I have been obese, etc for
over 5 years, so hopefully that'll help.
Just get as much documemtation as you possibly can!

I have Aetna POS and was approved last month. I was worried about diet
documentation too. I didn't have documentation of a physician supervised
diet, but I did type up 3 pages of regular diets I had been on with the
approximate dates, weight lost, and weight gained back. I managed to get a
copy of one of my Weight Watchers records and copies of 2 health club
contracts and sent that in too. I also looked over my medical records and
noted the weight fluctuations and made a seperate sheet with that - just
listing the date and weight so they could easily see how many times I went
up and down! It took Aetna 7 weeks to approve me, but they did approve me!
Good luck!!!
