Question:
My Iron level is 67.....
I am told the levels are between 35 and 175. I was told by my surgeon that my level was "good", But I see it as being on the low side..it is much closer to the 35 than the 175 mark. I am getting copies of all my bloodwork from the beginning to see the differences, but does anyone have any input on this level? good, bad, normal for us? — Patricia R. (posted on September 12, 2002)

I am not sure what Iron level you are talking about there are a couple,
Ferritin and Plasma Iron. My Plasma Iron level is 6 and my Dr. Said normal
is between 30-150. So I think we are talking about the same Iron here. I
am 1 year post op and I am tired all the time. I am working on getting
that Iron up. I was taking the pills with milk and your suppose to take it
on an empty stomach. Also I am taking the Iron 3 times a day now. My other
labs are good. Calcium and Protien are perfect and only Selenium and Vit
A are borderline. I think your Iron levels are just fine. The best of
luck!!!!!

BEFOre i had surgery, they wanted me to bring my iron level up and told me
to take it 3 times/day with 500 mg Vitamin C---for absorbtion. Also the
nurse said to take it with OJ if I wanted. Does this help? I know it may be
a different test, but my iron level jumped one whole point in 1 week!!!

I like to see mine closer up to 100, too. But 67 is within normal ranges.
You're pulling your labs, so you'll easily see if you are losing or
holding. Are you already taking a maintenance dose of iron?
