Aetna US Healthcare is the a Breeze. My doctor told me that they have the highest approval rating and don't require much other than the required BMI, nutrional review and psych evaluation.

I have Aetna and was worried about the same thing. The only "medically supervised" diets I had been on weren't really "supervised" at all. When I was in high school a Dr. I saw once gave me a printed out diet to follow - so I listed that as one of the medically supervised diets when I wrote out my own diet history. The only other one I had was when I was on Phen-fen - and the only supervising being done with that was when I went to get refills - still, I listed that as a "medically supervised" diet. I did a little "diary" of my weight loss attempts throughout the years in chronological order - I listed weight watchers, Jenny Craig, The Atkins Diet, protein power, Richard Simmons - every type of diet product I could think of that I had ever tried (even if I had only tried for a few days on some of them). I was approved for surgery right away. If you want me to forward you a copy of my diet history letter, let me know. Good Luck!

Hi, I just saw my PCP yesterday and that was the only thing he thought would hold me back from getting approval. I did the same thing and listed all the diets, etc. but nothing was "medically supervised" in around 30 years. He is going to submit the request for a referral to a surgeon anyway. He is also going to find out just what they require as the medically supervised diet and we will start that right away as back up. Someone else I know (also with aetna hmo) just was given the referral to the surgeon and her only medically supervised diet was that he had prescibed meridia for her at one time. I know a referral to a surgeon is not the same as approval but with aetna hmo it is the first step. HTH

I was approved with Aetna in less than 24 hours. My BMI was only 36, no supervised diet attempts and sleep apnea being my only comorbid. I agree, Aetna is one of the easiest insurance companies to get approved with. I am now 8 months post op and only 7 pounds from my goal of 135. I meet with my surgeon on August 12 to schedule my tummy tuck. I hear they are just as easy with the approvals for a tuumy tuck!! Cant wait!!!

I have Aetna US Healthcare MC, I did not have any medically supervised diets. My BMI was 43. The only weight related problems I had were arthritis and PCOS. My PCP just wrote a quick note on a script pad saying he recommended WLS for me due to my orthopedic problems. I was approved on my first attempt.

I have Aetna US Healthcare Open Choice and my beginning BMI was 56. That was all I needed to qualify for WLS. I did have some co-morbidities (that are all gone now) and I had tried tons of diets, but none of them Doctor supervised. I was approved within 7 days.
