Question:
I am 6 days post lap rny and have started having a lot of pain
when I am standing. It just started yesterday. I feel like I have to hold my left incision area with my hand whenever I am standing or it hurts alot. Has anyone used a "rib belt" or anything like that. If I am sitting down it doesn't hurt at all. — Debbie K. (posted on June 29, 2002)

I would cakll your surgeon to be sure nothings wrong but my pain level
varied a lot in the days immediately after surgery. About a eek out it
pretty much went away. But SOME DAYS later hurt a bit more than earlier and
I was told its how things knit together and heal.

Hi Deb. Congratulations on being postop. I, too, had the left sided under
my rib throbbing pain in the first few weeks. My doc told me that's where
the major trauma occurred and that it would slowly go away. I'm now almost
5 weeks postop and its barely an ache. Be patient with yourself. Tylenol
gel caps seemed to help me. But be sure to check with your doc too!

I experienced the same pain, at the same time. My doc told me it was the
muscles healing. Strech that area when it's not hurting. It lasted about a
week to 10 days.

hi. I am 4 weeks post-op from LAP RNY as well, It is the muscle healing
there. That is the deepest cut they say, or atleast the most painful and
sore, the left incision, i believe you are talking about. It will get
better, i still feel a dull pain there sometimes, too. It will take time to
heal. Sorry I cannot help you with the pain, just want you to know it will
get better! :)

Hi! I can totally relate on this one. I am almost 2 weeks post op and I
still have a very hard time walking. The pain is very bad in that one
hole. I spoke to my doctor last night on the phone and he told me that
pain there is normal, and some people handle pain better than others. I
have to hold my stomach up when I go to walk and even then, if I don't hold
my stomach in the exact position, I will feel the pain. My hole just
happens to be in a crease too, so it's in a high pressure area. When I
stand up, the weight of my stomach pulls on it....which is why I feel I'm
still having so much pain. Just wanted you to know.....you're not alone.
