Question:
how much do I need to weigh if I am 5'4
I am starting classes monday and hope I will be approved. Do I need to gain a few more pounds? — Tammie H. (posted on February 8, 2002)

Most insurance companies require a BMI of 40 with no comorbidities or a BMI
of 35 with comorbids. With a BMI of 41, I think you should qualify. Good
luck.

When I went to my consultation for my surgery I weighed 244. I am also 5'4.
I got approved right away. I did write my own letter of all of my problems
associated with the weight and my own diet history (not doctor supervised).
Good luck!

Hi, I am also 5'4" and I weighed 236. I submitted letters from my
podiatrist and chiropractor, as well as a list of the many diets and
programs, including my 18 months on Fen-Phen. I was approved within a week
and had my Lap RNY on Jan. 8th. Good luck!

I had surgery last week, Feb. 6, 2002 and I weighed 228. My first
consultation when I went I only weighed 221 and I needed about 4-5 pounds
to qualify BMI wise....so about 225 is what I was told you should weigh.
That is only in considering BMI w/o comorbidities.
