Question:
Help! My BMI went from 42.3 to 41.1 over the Holidays!

I have yet to meet my surgeon. My appointment is this Thursday, and I'm afraid that he may not consider me a good candidate. My insurance requirements are: 100 lbs overweight and a BMI of 40 or higher. Should I try to gain a couple pounds this week, or is that ridiculous??    — [Anonymous] (posted on January 12, 2002)

Well it seems as if your bmi is still qualifying. Just don't lose any more and you will be fine. Good luck on your new journey!!

Your BMI went down 1.2 points?!?! Good heavens, lady, what the hell are you doing?? Please give details cause I want to do it too! LOL To be helpful, you also might try wearing your heaviest shoes. Big clunky ones can add a pound or two. I thought the watering up suggestion was good. Also a big meal before the appointment or put a small child in your pocket. Hang in there and very best wishes to you on your journey to good health. :)

First of all, I want to know how a pre-op lost weight over the holiday! I am also, and gained over 5 pounds! I am borderline also, (41) so I am remininding my insurence company and doctor that I have back pain, swelling in my ankles, and terribly out of breathe when I even just clean my house, etc.....Make a list of your liabilities and ailments to take along, to show why its important for this wls,,,,,good luck! ps,,,,one person in here had a few rolls of quarters in her pants pockets,to be heavier,,,,,they are heavy, and dont make any noise in a roll!

I cannot believe that I am actually telling someone how to weigh MORE when they get on the scale!!! I used to take off my shoes, suit jacket, and sometimes my jewelry so I would weight LESS!!!LOL! But, the coins are a good idea, and Hey! You could do what Barney Fife did on The Andy Griffith Show when he was too light to be a deputy. Right before he went in to get weighed he put a big heavy bike chain around his neck! LOL! But seriously, I dont think you'll have a problem as you are still over 40 BMI, I should be so lucky to be 40! Good luck, Best Wishes, Donna

My doctor's office weighs you, but asks you your height. You can always say you are one inch shorter.

I like the quarters- and the slouching- and the clunky shoes- but here is one noone has mentioned yet....don't have a bowel movement for a day or two before. Get it all stored up and it should add at least a pound or two!
