Question:
Has any been successful in obtaining approval in Virginia for WLS who had UHC?

I am trying to find out what their requirements are for "medically necessary". My insurance goes into effect 1/1/02 - I guess I can wait and have my doctor call but I am so anxious !!!!!    — [Anonymous] (posted on December 11, 2001)

In Virginia there is a law that was passed that states insurance companies must approve for those who meet the criteria. 1) 100 pounds overweight 2) BMI of 40 plus 3) BMI of 35 plus co-morbids. If you meet any of these it is considered medically necessary and you insurance company must approve. Please let me know how it goes.
