Question:
Could I be eating too little for me to lose weight?

I think my body is in schock. I am losing slow, about 25 since Sept 14. (4 weeks) I have only been eating 3 times a day, COuld it poosible if I ate 4 times a day I would lose better? I will ask my surgeon on next visit, but would like opinons. I am taking in at least 60 grams of protien, and getting the water in as much as possible. I have had no complications. Also, when do we know we can eat more, I have been afraid to eat more than the 2 oz. Distal, RNY Thanks...    — Marie A. (posted on October 12, 2001)

Hi Marie, 25 lbs is very good for 4 weeks! It may be possible that your body is in shock and just holding on for dear life, the weight, like a starvation mode. I know that this has happened to me, and I did take in an extra meal, added some more water, and upped my exercise, and my weight loss started up again. Good Luck to you!

I too feel like I'm not losing weight fast enough. I had surgery 9-18. I've lost about 22# in about 31/2 weeks, so don't feel alone. I don't eat as much as I can and I eat mainly protein. Have started protein shakes. I keep thinking my body is in major shock and is holding on for dear life. I think if we keep doing what we are doing, we will continue to lose. I think we need to stop comparing ourselves to others. Take care :)

I have not lost more than 10 lbs a month since my operation May 22. BUT it still adds up down 58 lbs. Put your scale away and relax!

I've lost 90 lbs since my Open VBG on 06/11/01. There have been a few times that I've hit a plateau (didn't loose an ounce for days and days. At those times I increased by a few calories (never more than 800-900 a day though), ate more frequently throughout the day, added more protein, upped my exercise a bit, drank more water, and immediately started loosing again....

If you are distal, 60g supps isn't enough, so that could be hanging up you a bit. Doing lots of water? LOTS of water? And then if you are faithful to the tiny meals, under 2 oz, you might try eating every 2-3 hours those tiny meals to keep your blood sugar steady & keep you from being ravenous in between.

I am in the same boat as you. I had surgery 10/19 and have only lost 15 lbs. For the last 4 days I haven't lost anything. They say not to snack but I'll try upping liquids.
