If the pain is on your left side, right under your rib cage...yes I've had
that pain. I reached for something one time and I got it. It lasted for a
day, then I got it a few more times. All and all it lasted 2 weeks off and
on. I called the doctor's office and was told it was probably a muscle
pulled or something like that. When you have surgery and don't move those
muscle right away it may pull. (Or something like that....lol)
Hope this helps.

I had the same pain. It didn't come on until 2 weeks after I'd had the
surgery. I still don't know what caused it, but I had it for a week. It was
painful to do anything when it came on . . . even walk! Just when I was
about to give up and go to the doctor, it went away just like that. I'm not
saying you shouldn't go to the doctor (I probably should have) but it seems
to be a common place for pain with WLS. Maybe something to do with scar
tissue forming. And anonymous, I didn't see the question asked on Sept. 6th
and I certainly don't mind answering. I wish I had found this website when
I had that pain!

10/20/2003. If you are referring to pain in your front, left side: then,
yes I have it too. I found ouf from an R.N. who also had this surgery at
Norwalk Hospital (in Connecticut) that a certain percentage of Post-Ops
have this pain. I think it's like 20-38% have it. It is not constant.
For me it sometimes feels worse than other times, but it is a thing that
will be chronic for us from now on. Some people feel it when they move a
certain way, or when they move too fast. I am Bi-Polar, so I feel it when
I am Manic and not sleeping much, or when I move too fast. For me it lasts
for a few hours or a few days. I have found that for me, I just have to
sit/lay down somewhere and not move. That's the only thing that has helped
me so far. (Pain meds just don't seem to help me with this one.) If you
would like more information contast me at: [email protected] or call
203/255-2033 and leave a message. Lots of love and hugs to you all, Susan
Bresnehan. (S. Bres.)

I had a pain in my left side after surgery for about 3-4 weeks. I called
the surgeon and they told me that it was normal, that's where they did a
lot of the work. It did finally subside - it almost was like when you walk
too much and have that terrible "catch" in your side - but it was
in my abdomen instead. It went away, but in the meantime, just take it
easy.
