Have you called Americhoice directly to ask them? My sister has another HMO
under NJ Medicaid. We called them at the Customer Service number on her ID
card and they explained everything in detail to her. The bottom line is
that she is covered for WLS surgery (RNY only but that's the type of
surgery she wants) and she had to have evidence of her comorbidities (she
has diabetes) and that she'd tried medically supervised diets. My sister's
primary doctor is very happy to provide the insurance company with that
information. Call your HMO and you may know the answer tomorrow. You can
also ask the surgeons office to check for you too but it will be faster if
you call yourself. Good Luck.
