Question:
How long to take off work for LAP for 100 lbs or less

I am preparing for surgery. I am A kinder teacher. ( the kids don't climb on me or anything, but they do give hugs.) I am a "smaller" person that needs to loose 80-90 lbs. BMI 41, I would like to hear from folks like me, so I can determine how long to take off work. ( I know everyone is different but, I want to get some general ideas. thanks!!!!!!    — Cindee A. I had the Lap RNY and took 5 weeks off of work. I could have went back after 2 weeks but I had the time so I took it. Working with children you have to remember that you can not lift for at least 8 weeks. If you need to return to work after just a few weeks... try going back for a few days part time. You will get tired easier. Best of luck

I'm sorry I forgot to say that I weighed 236 and am 5' tall so I also had less to lose than some. BTW I have lost 71 pounds in 6&1/2 months and feel wonderful.

I also had the lap RYN, I had to lose between 90-100#. I have a sit down job, so I took only 2 weeks. When I did go back to work I only worked part time for the first week, then I was back full time. Being a teacher I would take a minimum of 3 weeks. You will be on your feet alot and get tired. Good luck to you. (I am 10 mos. post op and am at goal.)

I weigh alot moe than you, but I did have lap rny on July 23. I went back to work in six days. I am a teacher too and it was preplanning, I felt no pain and was able to drive and was off my meds. I think it really depends on how healthy you are aside from the weight. I am in pretty good health and pretty young, too. Hope that helps.

I took 3 weeks but could've gone back in 2. But I told work I was taking 4 weeks because I wasn't sure if there would be complications. You do find that you get tired more easily. There were times where I just had to lay down for a 1/2 hour. I work at home so it is easier for me. I'd say you need a minimum 3 weeks.

I went back to work after 3 weeks though I have a very physical job. If I could've had a sit down job i would've taken off two weeks. Just depends on your energy level. I found that middle of the day I needed a rest, not necessarily a nap but a rest

I had surgery 16 days ago. I had a LAP RNY and my BMI was 39.9. I am taking 3 weeks off. I feel like two weeks would have been enough but since I told them at work I would be gone 3 weeks I figure why not take it. I would suggest at least 3 weeks. My job is not physically demanding but you will be on your feet a lot, not to mention the energy level of the kids you will be teaching.

I am a teacher too & just had my surgery 8/1/01. I will have 3 weeks off because of when I have to go back, but I feel as though I could have gone back after about 10 days. I feel great! If I were you, I'd take what time you can off just in case you have complications or are not feeling up to running around. There are a lot of factors besides just size-- like age, current health, & any complications that could occur. Good Luck!
