Question:
I have read some of the comments about carb. bev., what about sparkling water?
i read thes comments on carbonated beverages, my question is what about carbonated water? I really like the "fizzy effect of sodas. But , I can get into pierrie's w/lime, la croix sparking water w/ lemon or lime, etc. I just would like to know if these will hurt my pouch after surgery. I am going to have a lap rny. I have been told that the sparking water is just as good for you as water, so what's the real deal? — peppermintp (posted on July 5, 2001)

Sparkling water IS carbonated! Same thing as pop. Just be careful, go
slooooow. Don't push it. I prefer Splenda (or some other sweetener if you
like) in my pop or in your case the sparkling water. It WILL take out
"some" of the fizz and make it alittle safer. Funny thing, I was
NEVER a water drinker before.... now I enjoy it the most. ;)

NO !!! In my group, ANYthing carbonated is forbidden forever because it
blows your pouch up. One girl had to have a revision because she started
drinking sodas and she said that was the cause for the re-do. But, every
doctor has their own rules. I'd rather play it safe and stick to plain
water with lemon or lime squeezed in it.

I've forgot to mention something in my other post. A friend of mine gave me
a drink he bought at a BJ's. I liked it so much that I went to a BJ's (not
the one he went to and could'nt find it). :( But check at a BJ's near you
and you may get lucky. I believe it was called "Fruit 2O. (Kind of a
pun on H20). This IS WATER. NOT carbonated. Just water with alittle fruit
flavor of your choice. And there is NO sugar in it. I think they use
nutrasweet. "However you must be careful with other flavored
waters". I have seen several other brands of these drinks and they ALL
WITHOUT EXCEPTION have SUGAR in them. And in higher consentrations than we
can safely have. I think the lowests was a (16 or 20 oz) bottle with two
servings of 12 grams each! So drink the dinky bottle and you have 24 grams!
The other bottle (fruit flavor) had 24 grams each for a total of 48 grams.
So to the best of my knowledge the Fruit 20 (the "O" is O for
oxygen not the number 0) is the only one with no sugar.
Anyway it was really good and it's driving me crazy because it's not at my
local BJ, but at one near a big city. :( Anyway, try it if you get a
chance.

Regarding the Fruit 2O, I love it. We buy it by the case at our local
Sam's Club. Since Sam's Club is a part of Wal-mart, perhaps Wal-mart would
have it as well. I've never checked.

Thanks for the posts of where to get the Fruit 2O! I think that is an
excellent choice for something to drink when you want just alittle more
flavor. ;) I don't enjoy pop that much anymore. Wait! Did "I" say
that??? lol

I love the flavored carbonated water that Walmarts has. I just shake up the
bottle and let the air out a little at a time till most of the carbonation
is gone. The water keeps it's flavor even after it's flat. Carbonation
causes you to have a bunch of gas and belching.

I was told from the get go to give up all carbonated beverages period.
Carbonation, according my surgeon and primary care physician, will stretch
your stomache. My surgery is scheduled for July 14 and I'm having a hard
time because I love not only Diet and regular soda but also carbonated
water. But I'm determined to eliminate it from my diet because I don't
want to undo the effects of my by-pass once I've had it. I figure I'd
better start now.
