Question:
Looking for Information on Dr.s operating at Shands in Gainsville Florida

I saw my POC doctor and pulmonary doctor today and both have recommended I go to Shands Hospital in Gainsville Florida for the operation but neither could give me the name of the doctor. Has anyone had their surgery done in Gainsville? I have CIGNA insurance. All help will be greatly appreciated.    — [Anonymous] (posted on May 16, 2001)

If you will pull up "Find a Doc" on this site, it will mention doctors that practice in Gainsville Florida. I know Dr. Hocking is one that goes to Shands, however you could call the others in Gainsvile and ask them. Take Care.

My Surgeon is going to be Dr Hocking. I think that he is booked up until the first if the year, but here is his number so you can check it out. 800-749-7424 ext 50604 There is also Dr Rout, I don't know anything about him except that he does the surgery! Good Luck!

I had my surgery in Gainesville at North Fla regional by Dr. Cendan, who did his residency under Dr. Hocking. Dr. HOcking is at shands and is very good. I understand though he has very little aftercare support. I went through Dr. Thoburn's office, the center for weight loss surgery. They have 4 or 5 Dr.s and a fulltime nutrionist. @ years of followup care and monthly support groups. Good luck.
