Question:
Is there anyone who has NOT had hair loss?
I am almost 4 wks post op and getting concerned about when and if I experience hair loss. Do most people suffer hair loss? Has any NOT experienced this? I am taking 2 childrens chewable vitamins daily, biotin and B12, is there more I should be taking? My doctor states that if I am getting enough protein I won't have hair loss, but from reading the postings it seems it's definatley going to happen. Thanks for any responses on this subject. — cheryl F. (posted on May 14, 2001)

I am 8 months post-op and I have not had any hair loss. I think that the
secret is to keep up with your protein intake and TAKE YOUR VITAMINS!!
This has worked for me.

It was my understanding everyone gets it and its not only due to protein
issues.. its often anesthesia, trauma and hormone related.. all happen w/ a
major surgery. I had some hair loss following all my surgeries.. the most
was my hysterectomy due to hormone loss on top of the anesthesia. I
understand hormones get out of whack w/ WLS as well because hormones are
stored in fat and with drastic weightloss it has to send them out of
balance. If you find people who haven't had hair loss or have had minimal
I would love to know.. I have very fine and thin hair as it is.. its not
hard to see scalp on me and I hate to think if I was to lose much more.

I'm 2 months post-op and my hair is getting THICKER. I have PCOS and since
I started losing weight my face has cleared up and my hair is thicker. I
have also been using Nixion Shampoo. I truly believe that it is a
combination of the two that has made my hair thicker. HOWEVER, I have read
that most people don't experience hairloss until about 4 months.I'll have
to wait and see. I hope everything goes well for you.

I am four months post-op, and losing ALOT of hair. I had very thick hair,
it is now possible to see my scalp on top. The texture has also changed
from course and wavy to baby soft and curly. Believe it or not -it looks
pretty good if you don't look too close. Nonetheless, I am so happy about
my 90+ lb weight gain in 4 months, I wouldn't care if I were as bald as a
bowling ball! I also have maintained a minimum of 60gms of protein and my
daily vitamins. It is believed to be hormonal in nature as it does not
happen in men as frequently as it does women. I just ordered Nioxin from my
hair salon, hope it works.

any hair. It is still thicker than ever.

I have a lot of hair, maintained my vitamins and protien and was pulling
about 10-20 strands out in the shower at a time from about Month 4-6 post
op. I really think this is one of those things like dumping: either you do
or you don't. On the other hand, it does grow back and it will feel
thicker, so when it does, treat your thinner face and new hair to a new
style!
