My daughter and I received a consultation appointment within 2 weeks of our
initial call to the office; my husband's first appointment was within one
month. It may take 3-6 weeks following the consultation appointment to
receive approval from insurance providers. My husband and I received
insurance approval within 3 weeks and were able to get a surgery date one
month later; my daughter was self-pay and was offered a surgery date 2
weeks after her consultation appointment. Keep in mind that the vast
majority of his out-of-state patients forego the consultation appointment
and see him in the office for the first time on the day before surgery.
Not everyone has a comfort level with this process, but it is an option.
You can call the office and request an admission packet...it contains
comprehensive information regarding lap RNY and VBG surgery, as well as
information forms to be completed and mailed back to the office. The
letter of medical necessity is drawn up based on the information provided.
Eliminating the consultation appointment would shorten the waiting period
somewhat. Appointment availability will also vary depending on his
schedule of speaking/teaching engagements, since he is internationally
recognized for his expertise in the field of laparascopic bariatric
surgery. If I can help you with any additional information, please feel
free to write me at [email protected]. Good luck...he's worth ANY waiting
period! :-)
