Question:
has anyone had an rny and kept their weight off, ?
i was wondering if anyone has had a rny or similiar surgery and kept their weight off for long term? (say, 10 years or more? ) — peppermintp (posted on April 11, 2001)

I have a friend who had the surgery (open RNY) with Wittgrove's
predecessor. She lost 125 pounds, and has regained 25 pounds because she
snacks constantly. That is her choice, but is by no means inevitable.
Good luck with your decision. I'm going for it a week from tomorrow!

I'm 6+ yrs, my husband is 5 yrs out from distal RNY. I still weigh about
109#, he's still at 175#. You asked for those 10 yrs plus. I know a few
people who are still at their ideal weights with our particular surgery,
our particular surgeon (& his post-op plan). I also know many who have
intact surgeries, but had a different type or different plan who are still
heavy, though no longer morbid. Much depends on the surgery you have AND
the tools you are given with which to manage your life.
