Question:
Did anybody have Dr. Alverdy and go to U of C in Chicago?
I would love to hear any comments by anyone who's had Dr. Alverdy do their surgery. I would also like to hear any comments about the nursing care they recieved at the Univ. of Chicago Hospital. I'm kind of anxious about the nurses getting ticked off at having large patient to care for. Any bad or good things to relate?? Thanks. — marlo T. (posted on March 26, 2001)

Hi! I had Dr. Alverdy at U of C for my Lap RNY this past December. I was
very impressed with his program overall. He has a comprehensive program
with a nutritionist, psychologist, etc. I had some complications about a
week after the surgery and was very happy with the response of his team. I
was back in the ER within an hour or so of calling them, (at 6 am, by the
way) and they were on the ball. The resident who works with Dr. Alverdy met
me down in the ER and got the ball rolling ASAP. By the end of the day,
they had raced me through every test they could think of. Thank goodness it
was nothing serious, but they had it figured out by the next morning. The
best thing was, they gave me morphine shots immediately to help with the
pain. And it DID! Anyway, the nurses at the hospital were great. They put
all the RNY patients on the same floor, and there are usually three wls
patients at a time. The nurses seemed VERY familiar with the post-op
routine, so it was very nice, actually. My only complaint with U of C
hospital was that it took nearly 6 hours to get me out of recovery.
Although, I must say that I had my surgery the day of the huge snowstorm,
so there was a slight problem with people leaving, and getting an open bed.
Otherwise I am really pleased with the whole thing. I've gone on enough,
but if you have any more questions about Dr. Alverdy or U of C, please feel
free to email me at [email protected]. Good luck!
