I believe it is called a Vena Cava Filter and I think it is permanent. At
least that is what I have read on the sites. Good Luck, Karan

Check out this site for more info on vena cava (blood clot) filters:

Then back track to his opening page at http://members.tripod.com/Daryl_D/
It's got some way excellent before and after WLS photos.

My husband had a history of blood clots in his legs and lungs, and has been
on blood thinners for over 15 years. He had a vena cava filter placed
before his lap RNY 3 weeks ago, and was told by the cardiovascular surgeon
that it is a permanent filter and will be a part of him for the rest of his
life. Some folks have chronic problems with leg cramps which have nothing
to do with blood clots. Placement of a vena caval filter should only be
done on patients with a strong history of blood clots and following a
comprehensive physical assessment to rule out other causes for leg cramps.
It is a simple and brief outpatient procedure, but not one without risks.
Good luck!
