I take Effexor for the same reason and it is also a big concern of mine as
to what will happen post-op, my surgery is the 30th of this month, and I
posed this question to my surgeon. Basically he told me that they would
work with the pharmacy to come up with a medication that will work in the
same way, which of course really did not answer the question very well. My
suggestion would be to talk with your pharmicist directly.

I have continued using Effexor XR after a distal RNY. I considered changing
to the tablet form, but both my doctor and a representative of the
manufacturer felt that even with a short gut XR would have superior
absorption and steady-state dosing. I did increase the dose from 150 mg to
225 post-op. The lower dose still worked, but wasn't quite as effective.
Good luck.
