Question:
Do people with lower BMI's lose slower? I need to lose less than 100 pounds.
Anyone short and have BMI 40 need to loose under 100#s If one is short w/ BMI 40 do we loose slower than our larger friends?200+ — Cindee A. (posted on March 2, 2001)

Cindee, there are many factors in determining a person's
weight loss. However, if EVERY OTHER FACTOR were the same
between two people (age, sex, metabolism, adherence to diet,
exercise, etc), then yes, the person with the higher BMI
would almost certainly lose (absolute) weight faster. But
in my opinion, "absolute weight" is not what is important -
to me "percentage of excess weight loss" is a much fairer
standard of comparing the weight loss between two people.
And I would suspect that two people described above would
likely lose weight at the same rate. (of course, I'm one
of those who believes strongly that this is not a contest -
just relax and enjoy the NEW YOU !!!) Good Luck !!! Kevin
