Question:
I'm 13 days post op and I overate. Afraid
My doc said I could have soft foods when I left the hosp 13 days ago. Today I made tuna salad and pureed it to death. This evening I was like a hummingbird every hour. The last straw was when I didn't stop when I felt pain. Now I'm miserable fearing I am going to spring a leak. Has anyone else done this so soon? — Perri T. (posted on December 25, 2000)

Peer: Don't worry I did the same exact thing I too had some tuna and
actually as long as you were able to keep it down and not feeling any
physical pain except guilt, you will be fine.Remember it is all trial and
error when it comes to foods you can and cannot tolerate.Best of luck

I called the doc this morning after a miserable night. He said I could
spring a lieak as much as 3 months after surgery. I am monitoring my temp.
He said to go back to liquids for the remainder of this week. I see him on
Thursday. He said he had a patient leak at 3 months post-op. I asked why.
He said, "Bad Luck". I have had severe abdomimal pain all night.
Not much pain in my pouch area. I think I am worrying myself into the
cramps. More encouragement please.

Perri, I think EVERYONE goes through that "overeating" bit, at
least once post op. Like it was mentioned before, it is a trial and error
thing. Not only that, but you are learning how to eat smaller portions so
you still have the old thought of "I need to keep eating..."
Please don't be too hard on yourself, I have done it a few times myself and
was absolutely miserable. It's a "lesson" thing, you will
remember it and hopefully not do it again. Good Luck, hope your pouch is
alright and no leaks have sprung. Hugs~

Perri: I doubt you could actually 'worry yourself' into 'extreme abdominal
pain.' This sounds real. Stay in contact with your surgeon -- don't wait
too long because it could be very serious indeed.

Thanks for the responses. Last night I had a scare. Yesterday my temp was a
little high. Then last night it jumped to 100. Don't know why and am still
worried. Called the doc at 10pm and he said I could come to the hospital
for observation, however the insurance won't pay if it isn't anything. I
decided to wait through the night and see how I did. Woke up at 2am and my
head was wet with sweat. My temp had broken and has remained normal today.
I guess I dodged the bullet. Still scared. Afraid to eat anything now and
feeling sickly. I was sched. to return to work today. Think I'll take
another week. Anyone think that is a bad idea? Maybe I should return so
that I am not constantly thinking about my surgery.

HI,
I just wanted to say that if you are not feeling well and have a fever
you should get yourself to the dr asap. Better to be safe than sorry. Hope
all is well.
