Question:
7 Days Post Op and I drank 6oz - no problem or pain HELP
I am 7 days post op. I am really nervous because I feel great. Almost too good. I am worried because of something that happened tonight. Since my surgery (LapRNY)I have been doing the liquid every 15min thing. I haven't been hungry but work to eat every 15 like I was told to do. But tonight I wasn't paying attention and not using my measuring cups. I had made a high protein shake because I felt I didn't get enough today. I sipped it out of the glass. There was 8 oz when I started and 2 when I finished after about 10 minutes. I looked at the glass and freaked. I don't feel stuffed or sick. I am scared of leaking or that my stomach isn't small enough. Have you been able to take in more than 1 or 2 oz portions at a feeding when only days post-op? BTW I have been very suspect that I have never vomited once or been nauseated. Advice please? — Perri T. (posted on December 20, 2000)

Don't worry- liquid goes in and out of the stomach very quickly
so you probably didn't hurt anything. When you start solid
food, you will KNOW when you are full if you eat slowly and
chew well. I can slug down 30 ounces of water in about 30-45
minutes very easily, but food- no way- I eat max 1 cup and
am stuffed. BTW- I also didn't vomit or get nauseous (except
when I ate too fast or ate SUGAR). Take your time and learn
more about your new body!

Fluids pass through your stoma immediately, so I wouldn't worry too much
about being able to drink 6 oz. in ten minutes if you aren't nauseated or
in pain. It will come in handy for getting that 64 oz. of water in,
because sometimes that isn't easy to do whether your 7 days or 3 months
post op. I was like you...I don't usually feel 'stuffed' (more like
satisfied, thank God!), and have only experienced pain twice when took too
big of bites. Relax and stay on the program. You'll be just fine! Good
luck and Holiday Hugs,

Perri, The other reason you may have been able to drink more than before
is b/c the swelling in your pouch has probably gone down some. I know that
I freaked out when I could "eat" more of my CIB about a week post
op than previously. But was reassured by the post ops here that the
swelling was probably going down, thus creating more room for the
nutritious stuff get in. Hugs~
