Question:
What is the best protein drink with the least calories and not to expensive.
Im just wanting to go buy everything i will need for home after surgery. Surgery is this friday so I want to be prepared. What else do I need to buy or have for when i come home from the hospital? Any suggestions are appreciated. Im getting a little nervous. Thanks — kcraig (posted on October 1, 2000)

The one I have been researching is Pro Blend 55, it is 27 grams of
protein,4 g. carbs, 2 g. sugar, 1 g. fat and it is $1.05 per serving. KC,
Is Dr. Warnock your surgeon. He will be doing mine.

I use ProScore 100 choc. And I like ProBlend 55 vanilla with diet root
beer and for on-the-go, I mix 50/50 PB55 van/ choc, dry and add water
whenever I can. I also like an occasional can of Ultimate LoCarb choc. And
my latest thing is the Extreme Pure Pro powders, preferably grape. Same
thing in that I can add water and shake anywhere. But you asked for cheap.
There are a few "econo-whey" types out there, usually just choc,
van & straw. But for example, a 6.6# bucket of Universal is $40.
That's a VERY cheap way to get your protein in, and high in protein, low in
the other stuff, good brand name and fairly tasty. HDT makes one called
5+1 that is about the same price over all. There are several, actually.
Depends on your taste buds, though, what you'll find tasty. THe grouping I
consider are all comparable in calories, protein per serving,
carbs/fats/sugars. Just the taste & texture changes my choice of the
moment. And they'll all mix with water, so no added calories or evils.

Just a word of caution about stocking up on protein supplements. I bought
several of those big canisters of protein powders before my surgery, just
so I would be "ready", but after surgery, I found that each and
every one of them gagged me. I could not force them down. I had at least
a hundred dollars worth of this stuff filling up my kitchen cabinets, with
no use to me. Luckily, I found a friend who was having the same surgery,
and gave these to her instead of having to throw them away. But, it is not
uncommon for you tastes to change after surgery, and every person tolerates
these things differently, so be careful about stocking up. Good Luck!
